Console powers on, fan spins, light comes on — but your TV says no signal. That is the single most common console failure we see, and it is almost never the console itself.
The HDMI port is soldered directly onto your console’s mainboard. It is also the one part of the machine that gets yanked, leaned on, and tripped over. When someone catches the cable with their foot, the force goes straight into those solder joints and the tiny metal pins behind them.
The good news: the console is usually perfectly healthy. The port just needs to come off and a new one needs to go on — which takes a microscope, hot air, and a steady hand rather than a new $500 machine.
Factory HDMI ports are placed by machine with the minimum solder needed to pass inspection. That is fine until sideways force enters the picture. The port either cracks free of its pads or shorts internally, and the console loses video output while everything else keeps working normally.
This is also why the failure feels so sudden. Nothing degrades slowly — one bump and the picture is gone.
The board comes out, and the old port is removed with hot air under a microscope. We clean the pads, place a new port, and hand-solder every joint. Because we are doing it by hand rather than by machine, we can lay down a stronger joint than the factory did — which is why these repairs tend to outlast the port they replaced.
