Black screen? It’s the HDMI port.
Console powers on, fan spins, light comes on — but your TV says no signal. That is the single most common console failure we see, and it is almost never the console itself.

The HDMI port is soldered directly onto your console’s mainboard. It is also the one part of the machine that gets yanked, leaned on, and tripped over. When someone catches the cable with their foot, the force goes straight into those solder joints and the tiny metal pins behind them.
The good news: the console is usually perfectly healthy. The port just needs to come off and a new one needs to go on — which takes a microscope, hot air, and a steady hand rather than a new $500 machine.
Sounds like your problem?
- No signal on the TV even though the console boots and the fan spins.
- Picture flickers or cuts out when you nudge the cable.
- It works on one input but not another, or only at certain cable angles.
- You can see bent, crushed, or missing pins inside the port.
- A new HDMI cable and a different TV changed nothing.
Why it breaks
Factory HDMI ports are placed by machine with the minimum solder needed to pass inspection. That is fine until sideways force enters the picture. The port either cracks free of its pads or shorts internally, and the console loses video output while everything else keeps working normally.
This is also why the failure feels so sudden. Nothing degrades slowly — one bump and the picture is gone.
How we fix it
The board comes out, and the old port is removed with hot air under a microscope. We clean the pads, place a new port, and hand-solder every joint. Because we are doing it by hand rather than by machine, we can lay down a stronger joint than the factory did — which is why these repairs tend to outlast the port they replaced.
Then it gets tested on a real display before it goes back in the case. Most of these are done in one to two business days, and same-day is available if you need it back tonight.
While it’s open, every HDMI job gets a free dust clean and fresh thermal paste (liquid metal on PS5) — so it comes back cooler and quieter than it went in.
Older PlayStation and Xbox HDMI ports are all replaceable too, from $60 for a PS3 or Xbox 360.
Straight answers
Is a replaced HDMI port as good as the original?
Usually better. We solder by hand under a microscope with a stronger joint than the factory’s machine-placed minimum, which is why the replacement tends to outlast the original port.
How do I know it’s the port and not my console?
If the console powers on and the fan spins but there’s no picture — especially after a cable got yanked — it’s the port the overwhelming majority of the time. We confirm it before quoting you, and nothing is due until it’s fixed.
Can I get it back the same day?
Yes, for $40 more. Standard turnaround is one to two business days; same-day is $169 for a PS5, $169 for a Series X and $140 for a Series S.
Will I lose my games or saves?
No. This is board-level hardware work and it doesn’t touch your storage. Your games, saves and account stay exactly where they are.
